The title page is where you can see the title of the paper. As you can see, the title comes first. The title should effectively describe what the paper is all about. There should be a mystery with the title choice. It should be straight-forward as to what the paper is all about.
Your teacher and especially the other readers of the paper should be able to tell immediately what the topic of the paper is.
As you can see, the name of the student and the date of submission is also included in the Title Page. Normally, the name of the teacher who has assigned the paper and your course must be included in the title page as well.
As you know, the Abstract serves as a kind of summary for the whole paper. It should start off by naming the topic or the problem being discussed by the paper. In this case, the topic is the Internet and its use in modern classrooms of today.
As you can see, it also named what will be discussed about that topic which is both the benefits and the disadvantages that the internet has to offer. It even promises to name the course of action that will be recommended. Overall, the abstract must cover the entirety of what will be covered by your paper.
Table of Contents
The Table of Contents is very straightforward and self-explanatory. It basically exists to make things easier for those who will be reading the paper. It is not any different from the table of contents found in books. For very short term papers, a table of content may be unnecessary.
The subtitles that should be included in this section are the main points of your paper.
The Introduction will be kind of like the explanation to your reader why this paper is really necessary. You will be talking about the problem that has been assigned to you and why it is important to find a solution to it. You should also discuss the related literature that you found in the course of doing the research for the paper.
How can you write an effective introduction? Think of it in terms of yourself. What are the things that you would like to know about your paper if you are totally unfamiliar with it? Talk about that but don’t discuss it in length.
The Main Body
This is the main part of your paper. All the other sections are just to support the main body. This is where you will be talking about the topic that was assigned to you in depth. First you need to explain what your topic is.
Now, when writing the main body, you will need to cite your sources and there are several styles in use for that. You have to pick the one which is most appropriate for your topic. Here are three of the most commonly used citation styles and the topics for which they are used:
- American Psychological Association( APA ), this is often used in Education, Psychology, and Sciences.
- Modern Language Association (MLA ) style this style is used by the Humanities.
- Chicago/Turabian style is often used by Business, History, and the Fine Arts.
There are other citation styles but these are the most commonly used ones today. The good news is that you would only have to learn one citation style used for your subject. Although the citation style may be difficult to learn and understand at first, once you have learned how to do it with everything you write, then you will have an easy time writing academic papers.
The Plan of Action is a very important part of your paper, this is where you will be making recommendations on what can be done to resolve the problem you are writing about. The action which you will recommend must be based on the research that you have conducted. The readers must be able to see where you drew the recommendation from.
For the Conclusion, you will try to review what you have discussed in the main body of the paper. You should be honest about your assessment whether there is more study needed to resolve the problem or not. You should also assess the references and the resources that you used. Were they adequate? Do you need more?
All of the sources that you used for the paper should be written down here. Now, the format of the References section will depend on the kind of citation style that you are using for your paper. So, you have to review what format you need to follow.
This is a good example of a term paper. It’s okay to follow its format if you are unfamiliar and you are just getting started with academic writing. When you have become used to writing academic papers, you will no longer need to use a guide to help you.
